Meals with Locals

Enjoy Rakhine hospitality with a home-cooked meal with a local family in Kyeintali or another nearby village. Expect to leave with a full belly and warm heart. Meals can be made vegetarian friendly.

Kyeintali Market

The bustling Kyeintali Market is best to visit between 6-8:00am. A couple stalls serve rice and noodle dishes for breakfast. You can also find freshly made samosas and paratha. We recommend sampling a few of the tasty and inexpensive rice desserts as well. Show up with a friendly “mingalaba,” or even better, wearing a traditional “longyi” and you’ll be a hit.

Restaurants

Kyeintali has several restaurants serving local Rakhine food. You’ll have a chance to sample delicious Rakhine curries, fresh fish, as well as Myanmar favourites like spicy Shan Noodles (Shan Khaosway).
